Album review – The Sunday Allstars – Songs About you.

A whisper in the night,Loves foolish little fightsI never thought id tangle With the fire in her eyes And survive”

And that’s how the album begins.  On their debut album titled “Songs about you” Lead vocalist/guitarist, Dominick Carino, Lead guitarist/vocals, Christopher Jones, drummer/bassist, Andres karu make up the trio known as “The Sunday all-stars”.

The Sunday All-stars created an album that is an instant classic.  How rare is it these day’s for a band to releases an album that has no bad songs?  I mean this is one album that you can put in your c.d. player and just let play.  No skip button needed, might hit the repeat button a few times, but no skip.

From the opening track “8030 days” which opens up with “Dominick Carino” strumming his guitar, while singing from the bottom of his heart. In that moment you know you’re in for a great musical experience.

The 2nd song on the c.d. “simple affair” contains a beautiful “Jonesi” guitar solo by, all the while Andres Karu’s bass and drums follow along wonderfully throughout the whole song.

On the 3rd track titled “Alabama” the trio takes us along a wonderful journey where “it’s all right, (Deh! Deh!) Cause Alabama freed me tonight”.  An incredibly written and performed song that has you bopping along the first time you hear it.

The 4th track on the album is titled “Disneyland” is a comical look at a retired mobster looking for work at Disneyland.  Best part is hearing Dominick singing “it’s all right, it’s ok, if there’s a god in heaven we’ll all be saved, it’s a crazy plan, but he’s my kind of man, he’s a liar, and Disney won’t hire.”

The 5th song on the album simply titled “Patrick” is a great song musically and lyrically.  The drums resonate as powerful as Dominick’s voice on this song. When the song comes together you realize just how good this album is.

On to track 6, which is titled “where I stand”, another great song that will have you singing “whoa no!” during and long after the song is over.  Whoa No!

“Cuttin Ties” is the 7th song on the album guaranteed to have you singing and bopping the first time you hear it.

Eri, erik, Ericka! Hey now, say now, wait now, I’ve got five minutes to this show” that’s how the 8th track on the album begins and coincidently this is the first song that Dominick and jonesi wrote together.  That was the start of something magical I tell you.  From start to finish this song is an instant classic.  You will be singing along real quickly on this on.

Then track 9 called “clown fight” starts off with a “4,5,6,7,8”, cool guitars then joined by an impeccable drum beat to make this one memorable song.  The lyrics “as I put on my big shoe’s, nose and pick a crazy clown name” will stick in your head all day, Or as it has for this writer………years.

Throwing pennies in the well just scare the fish; hey a penny can’t buy a wish” is the opening line to the 10th track on the album titled “hurricanes”.  A very fun poppy song loaded with deep lyrics portraying tragedy.

The 11th track on the album is a memorable song in which Dom captures what we all have felt or said in our lives at some point with these words “Hey now I’m not all right, I’m ok but I’ve seen better days”.  His song writing skills are unparallel to anybody, and he proves it once again on this song.

Then onto track 12, which is the infamous “blog” song.  All that has read my blog in the past know this song.  “La Dee Da Dee”. This one starts off with an amazingly mellow Christopher Jones guitar solo, followed by Dom’s smooth soulful voice.  This is a great song.  Only the Sunday All-stars can take a well known phrase such as “Slick Rick’s La di da di, we like to party” and make it there own.  La dee a dee, she like to party, she’s nobody’s fool and she don’t bother nobody.  Cause oh we are, we are, we are…fools

I personally give this album gets 4 out of 4 stars.  And as an added bonus, the c.d. comes in with two disks.  The second disk is a blank so you can burn it for a friend.  It say’s it right on the c.d…  Unique I tell ya…….

This album came out in loving memory of fellow guitarist\friend Christopher Jones, aka Jonesi, Who tragically left us in a fatal car accident on October 11, 2005…….R.I.P., my Brother.
